If you try to print them in CMYK, a lot of vibrant colors like bright orange and neon green come out looking kind of funny (and definitely not what you intended). Navy blue comes out looking more purple and grey. Silver looks sort of grey, and gold really just looks brown.

You can design with RGB, ONLY if you are printing off the NexPress. The Nexpress can print some of the expanded color space of RGB, so converting the images is not mandatory. But be careful, most settings used to create PDFs will automatically convert the color to CMYK. CMYK is the modern model for digital printing even though, there are some improvements in technology that aim at making RGB printing easier. That printer uses 6 tanks - CMYK+G and pigment black. The first thing I noticed was b/w prints looked extremely good. I didn't print the same photos as on the iP4000, but the MG6220 output looked great and without the purplish cast as before.

Use TPP to find the CMYK code that makes your in-house printer print the same as your print shop. Color match envelope printing. Even the same print shop can handle envelopes and paper differently. Light gray can be accomplished using 10-30% black, medium grays can be achieved from 40-60% black and dark grays between 70-85% black.
